meet the bona fide team!
Debby de Moulpied, Founder + President
I was born and raised in New Hampshire, a beautiful state known for its diverse geography, and have lived here most of my life. Growing up in a college town, my father used to say that we lived in Utopia being so close to the ocean, the lakes, and the mountains. I spent a lot of time outside enjoying swimming, sailing, fishing, hiking, camping, skiing, ice skating, and horseback riding. I developed a love of nature, a sense of state pride, and a keen sense of the environment. For many years, my employment was focused in the athletic and sports medicine arena, mostly as a certified athletic trainer. My avocations have included over 12 original musical comedy choreography productions, oil painting, and home renovations. I enjoyed being a stay-at-home mom and put to good use my interest in athletics, health, and well-being. I still enjoy teaching aerobics at our local YMCA. In recent years, I've wanted to combine my interest in health and the environment to hopefully make a difference for future generations. I saw an opportunity in creating a one-stop shopping place for well researched, green products with excellent customer service. I am convinced that changes in the product choices we make will have a positive impact on the environment. I have put together a wide variety of earth-friendly products that fill your basic needs - a green department store with "a little bit of everything". I enjoy finding new products and developing relationships with all our wonderful customers and suppliers.

My favorite bumper sticker is "Leave It Better Than You Found It".

Lisa Eshelman, Product Specialist + Co-Manager
After working in nursing, I home schooled my children while being employed at a wonderful little Waldorf-style shop selling classic European wooden toys. This proved to be invaluable for my next venture: starting a green business with my old college roommate of 30+ years ago! My previous retail experience helped in setting up our store, while my nursing background helps me to scrutinize the products we carry. For example, knowledge about the endocrine system is useful in understanding the dangers of certain gender-bending chemicals, like BPA, and why we need to avoid offering products containing those toxins. Today, I stay current on environmental health issues with a passion that my co-workers share. We truly enjoy our inquiring customers who find that they can ask us tough questions.

My favorite bumper sticker is "Don't Mess with Mother Nature".

Jonathan Gregory, Operations Officer + Co-Manager
I was born and raised in Massachusetts in a small town known for its apple orchards, lakes and golf courses. There I was able to enjoy many aspects of nature, the most memorable being the construction of forts in the woods. However, my true love for the wilderness blossomed at summer camp in Maine. Profound journeys into the White Mountains and out on the rivers gave me a sense of wonder and interconnectedness between man and nature, feelings that have never left me. My business savvy came from my lineage of independent business owners and salesmen. Through years of observation I have found that people must come first, that listening is more important than speaking, and that in the end honesty builds trust. When Deborah and I connected through this business my senior year at UNH, my life progressively seemed clearer. The interconnectedness that I had always felt with nature now seemed possible within a single business plan. Through our gradual yet progressive adoption of sustainable business practices and eco-criteria, we are finding the common place between business and nature where sustainable communities begin.

My favorite bumper sticker is "We All Live Downstream"

Anna Eshelman, Graphic Designer + Digital Imaging Specialist
My lifelong interest in the natural environment developed while growing up in rural New Hampshire, whereas studying at the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore elevated my excitement for fine art and visual communication. I am excited by opportunities to inspire, inform, and initiate positive change through creative, beautiful design. What makes a logo, photograph, or website resonate, and how can I design with the greatest level of environmental responsibility? Responding to these questions is my current goal. Working with Bona Fide has been an ideal outlet for me to pursue my passion and better understand how sustainability can affect lifestyle, community, and my work as a designer. I am thankful to have been a member of the Bona Fide team since the beginning. Growing and learning with my co-workers and our customers has been a positive experience and I'm looking forward to more challenges in the future.

My favorite bumper sticker is "Simplify."

Penny the Pomeranian, Official Greeter
I began working at Bona Fide after prior experience as store-dog at the best little toy store ever, Woodland Toys, in rural New Hampshire. After they closed their doors, I found work again as official greeter, this time at Bona Fide on Main Street in Concord where there are so many new smells! Bona Fide is a dog-friendly store so it's great fun when other nice dogs visit like Henry dog, the official greeter from the art gallery just around the corner. He is one of my favorites, and I like to share the organic dog treats that we sell with him. But my very favorite thing in the whole store (and the whole world!) is my organic wool ball. We sell them here at the store in all sizes. Even just hearing someone say the words "woolly ball!" makes me think of the end of the day when I am finally able to chase after it...

My favorite bumper sticker is "Equal Rights for All Species".
