Fair Trade, Organic, Shade Grown and Kosher, Larry's Beans "House Blend" is a warm and well-balanced blend of whole coffee beans. All of Larry's Beans are Certified Fair Trade, Shade Grown, Organic or Transitional Organic (in the process of becoming certified organic, and Kosher Pareve. Shade grown coffee beans promotes biodiversity and provides shelter for over 150 bird species which, in turn, reduces the need for pesticides and fertilizers. The Fair Trade Proof label ensures that you can trace the exact path of your beans from farmer to roaster - just find the lot number located on the bottom of each bag of coffee beans that you purchase on the Fair Trade Proof and enter that number on the Fair Trade Proof website to see full documentation of the paper trail ensuring fair pay. Larry's Beans meets the important criteria of purchasing coffee with as many certifications as possible for the good of the workers, the environment, and the customer. The folks at Larry's Beans are passionate about finding the best coffee beans from around the world in countries like Peru, Guatemala, El Salvador and then purchase directly from Fair Trade cooperatives in order to support these small farmers. These finest of beans are then carefully slow roasted to perfection. Each 12 oz. bag is packaged in a state-of-the-art Bio-bag using new technology (this is NOT corn plastic) that allows the plastic to biodegrade in a landfill or in your home compost heap. The plastic bag contains an additive that actually induces the plastic to biodegrade. But before composting your Larry's Beans bag, be sure to first reuse it over and over again while enjoying the abundance of useful and clever bits of information covering literally every square inch of the bag! Example: "Slow roasted by coffee artists in a passive solar, super-green warehouse. We even recycle our rainwater!" And in reference to the biodegradable bag itself: "Invented, printed, and made in the USA."

Products with a "100% organic" icon are comprised of 100% organic materials. All items or their ingredients have a certification by a third party agency, details of which can be found on the product itself. Organic products are best for the environment because they greatly reduce the use of pesticides and foster sustainable agriculture.Products with the icon "compostable" are generally made of once-living organic matter, usually solid, which easily breaks down into simpler forms of matter. This happens under normal composting environments without any toxic by-products, creating a rich fertilizer which is considered safe for agricultural use. Compostable products can keep waste out of the landfills.Products with the icon "low/no packaging" are minimally packaged with protective coverings that have been reused, can be composted, or are completely recyclable. Low packaging is sometimes more desirable for containment (tea), for cleanliness (a baby's teether), or for holding parts together (a set of sheets). Since packaging almost always contributes a negative environmental impact, shoppers should consider products having the least amount of packaging. Better yet, choose products with absolutely no packaging (like naked bars of soap). Products with the "low/no packaging" icon may be free of any containment or protection; however, they may come with a tag. Considering low or no packaging for waste reduction is the hallmark of "reducing", the first of the 3 R's.Products with the icon "certified fair trade" are produced by a company or group that has been certified by one of the many fair trade organizations, including (but not restricted to): Fair Trade Labeling Organization (FLO), TransFair USA (FLO member), World Fair Trade Organization (WFTO), and the Fair Trade Federation (FTF) and bears the logo of certification. Fair trade is a way to gain greater partnership and equity for international trade by implementing socially responsible standards, including fair labor practices which provide workers an opportunity to earn a living wage, a right to unionize, a safe and healthy working environment, and reasonable work hours while prohibiting child and slave labor.Products with the icon "USA made" are manufactured in the United States. Some of the materials that make up the product might be sourced from outside the USA, but ultimately, the product is assembled in the USA. Fair labor practices and a softer carbon footprint are often associated with USA made products.
